Section 4 of The Dravidian University Act, 1997 — The objects of the University shall be -

1. (i)To promote national integration and the integrated development of the human personality through its policies and programmes;
2. (ii)To work for an integrated development of Dravidian languages, both written and spoken, including the Tribal languages of the Dravidian family;
3. (iii)To impart instruction and training at very high levels in

Dravidian languages, literature and culture, related arts and

crafts and allied subjects with an indigenous thrust;

1. (iv)To prepare suitable text books, reference books etc. at various levels of higher learning;
2. (v)To advance and disseminate learning and knowledge by a diversity of means, including the use of new and advanced communication technologies;
3. (vi)To provide for instruction in such branches of knowlege, sciences technologies vocations and professions as the University may determine from time to time and to make provision for research;
4. (vii)To co-operate with, and seek the co-operation of other universities and institutions of higher learning, professional bodies and organisations for such purposes as the university considers necessary;
5. (viii)To provide for the preparation of instructional materials, including films, cassettes, tapes, video cassettes and other software;
6. (ix)To take up extension activities with special emphasis on rural development so as to make the benefits of the work done by the University reach educational institutions throughout the country;
7. (x)To impart training to those residing within and beyond India who desire to study Dravidian Languages, literature, culture, modern sciences, medicine, engineering, technology and allied subjects;
8. (xi)To translate books of other languages into Dravidian languages according to the needs in consonance with the objectives of the University and also to translate books from the Dravidian languages into other languages;
9. (xii)To develop Dravidian languages as vehicles of modern knowledge and media of instruction.
