The Manipur Anatomy Act, 1974

This Act governs what happens to unclaimed bodies found in hospitals, prisons, or public places within the state of Manipur. It applies to anyone who dies in these locations without a known relative claiming the body within a specified time. The law allows an authorized officer to take possession of such bodies and hand them over to approved medical institutions for necessary therapeutic purposes, anatomical examination, or dissection. This ensures that bodies are not left unattended and are utilized for medical science when no family members come forward, provided there is no doubt regarding the cause of death.
