The Kerala Official Languages Act, 1969, establishes Malayalam and English as the official languages for the State of Kerala. It empowers the State Government to issue notifications specifying which of these two languages should be used for particular administrative purposes. To ensure legislative oversight, any such notification must be presented to the Legislative Assembly for a 14-day review period. The Act also mandates that all Bills, Acts, Ordinances, and official rules be drafted in Malayalam or English.
