The Goa Dramatic Performances Act of 1969 regulates dramatic performances in Goa, Daman and Diu. It gives the Government and District Magistrate powers to prohibit performances that threaten public order, incite violence or sabotage, undermine lawful governments, or are religiously or racially offensive. The law protects public safety and religious sentiments while respecting reasonable criticism of government policies. It requires that prohibitions be justified, publicly announced, and may be appealed to the High Court. The Act aims to prevent incidents that could disrupt social harmony during public theater, dance, and drama productions.
