27.

(1)The Academic Council shall be in charge of the academic affairs of the University and shall, subject to the provisions of this Act and the Statutes, superintend, direct and control, and be responsible for, the maintenance of standards of instruction, education and examinations and other matters connected with the conferment of degrees or award of diplomas or other academic distinctions, and shall exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed on it by the Statutes. It shall advise the Vice-Chancellor on all academic matters.
(2)The Academic Council shall consist of the following members, namely:,
1. (a)The Vice-Chancellor,
2. (b)The Deans of Faculties,
3. (c)The Director of Research and Dean of Post-graduate Studies,
4. (d)The Director of Extension Education,
5. (e)The Director of Student Affairs,
6. (f)The Librarian,
7. (g)The Registrar,
8. (h)The Director of Studies in Basic Sciences and Humanities,
  1. (i)Six members from amongst the Heads of Departments of the various faculties nominated by the Vice-Chancellor on rotational basis,
9. (j)Such other members not exceeding five, and to be appointed in such manner, as may be prescribed.
(3)The Academic Council may co-opt as members not more than ten persons for such periods and in such manner as may be prescribed so as to secure adequate representation of different aspects of agriculture.
(4)The Vice-Chancellor shall be the Ex-Officio Chairman and the Registrar shall be the Ex-Officio Secretary of the Academic Council.
(5)The term of office of the members specified in clauses
1. (i)and
2. (j)of sub-section
(2)shall be two years.

2On November 5, 2026, the Academic Council seeks external guidance on organic farming and votes to co-opt 11 external agricultural specialists. The Registrar informs the Council that under Section 27 of the Act, the Council cannot co-opt 11 members, as the law caps co-opted members at a maximum of ten persons.
